The PhilExport – NCST Food Testing Laboratory Launching Ceremony is a Shared Service Facility (SSF) which is a joint project of private and public sectors headed by DTI IV-A was held last Monday, November 24, 2014 at the National College of Science and Technology Multipurpose Hall with the theme of “Gearing up for ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015: An Info Campaign for PhilExport 4C Cavite Members”. The event was organized by Philexport 4C Cavite Chapter, National College of Science and Technology, GoNegosyo and the Department of Trade and Industry. Before the program, PhilExport 4C Cavite Chapter, Executive Director, Ms. Gretchen S. Barredo, which is also the emcee of the event, facilitated the registration of the attendees and other guests including the Department of Trade and Industry Regional Director, Ms. Malou Toledo, DTI Provincial Director, Mr. Noly Guevarra, GoNegosyo Executive Director, Mr. Mon Lopez, NCST Board of Trustees, NCST students and people from different business firms – who also exhibited their products to sell and conduct test services.

NCST President, Mr. Emerson B. Atanacio together with the special people behind the project led the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Director, Noly D. Guevarra cut the ribbon to signify the official launching of the facility. Pastor Collao and Fr. Ferdinand Liano blessed the laboratory as guests entered to take a look of the entire facility while Ms. Barredo explained the functions of every part of the lab and its equipment.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a short program to explain the goal of the food testing laboratory. As stated by DTI Provincial Director Noly Guevarra, the laboratory aims to help the students, especially, to expose them to the innovations regarding food technology. This project will also help the local community by opening doors of possibility for food businesses. Through this project, testing and accrediting of food products may be done in a faster and more efficient way — a proof of what have been said by Mr. Ericson Atanacio, Director for Administration of the National College of Science and Technology, that “when private and public sector work together, inclusive growth will happen”. He also wished that the event catapults the entire community to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015.

Presentations were also given by Farmtec Foods, Inc. CEO and PhilExport 4C Cavite Chapter Inc. Vice President, Mr. Fabian G. Espiritu who explained the capabilities, advantages and testing parameters of Food Testing Laboratory Facility and KLT Fruits, Inc. Vice President for Manufacturing and PhilExport 4C Cavite Chapter, Inc. President, Mr. Victor S. Marasigan who showed the “ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015 Threats and Opportunities for Cavite SME’s” that cleared up the audience’s minds including the students regarding business matters.

The event ended with high hopes to lead the students, the business firms and the community to become active nation builders in creating a strong bridge to connect the country to the ASEAN Community.
